Moving the furniture....
I do this once in a while... every year or so, I try to rearrange my office a bit. I decided to carry that tradition over to the website as well.
This time, I took things a step further... I'd been using a freeware server based tool similar to Moveable Type, but specifically built for ColdFusion/Blue Dragon and SQL Server. It was OK, but unsupported. It was also too tempting to go dink around with the code.
A friend and former boss was looking for blog software, so I decided to revisit Google's Blogger, and I gotta say I liked it enough to take the plunge...
I really like the simple interface for editing, and the lack of database backend. Sure, I'm a former DBA, and love the security of being able to move my content around, but I sorta like the freedom that Blogger offers -- the files are stored on Google, and I can post them wherever I want to via FTP. It also lets me go platform independent, i.e. today I'm on Windows, but this would work with Linux or Unix hosting as well.
So here I am. Blogging on Google...
It's going to take a few days to get the other content moved over, but it will get here. Eventually. Some of the really old stuff will probably stay offline (i.e. trip reports from 2005 and older), but the rest will be here. With bells on.
